On October 22, 2014, the LDS Church published another “Gospel Topics” essay titled “Plural Marriage in Kirtland and Nauvoo.” There were a number of admissions made. However, all the facts were not included to give a complete picture. The information contained within should be disconcerting for any faithful Latter-day Saint, as history doesn’t lie. A 12-part Viewpoint on Mormonism series aired in November 2014.
The LDS Church has produced another essay in its series titled “Gospel Topics.” Did Joseph Smith correctly translate the Book of Abraham papyrii? The arguments offered in this recent essay provide nothing new and show that Smith was unable to translate anything from the Egyptian langauge. This topic is featured during the week of December 1 on the Viewpoint on Mormonism podcast series.
While the topic has been discussed at length over the years, the idea that Mormons are Christians continues to be argued by many Latter-day Saints. In 1998, BYU professor Stephen E. Robinson explained why he thought the answer is yes in his book Are Mormons Christians? As part of its series on “Gospel Topics,” the essay titled “Are Mormons Christian?” was published in January 2014 on the official LDS website. Let’s take a closer look at the reasons given for why we should accept Mormonism as a Christian religion.
In its fifth essay of a series published on lds.org meant to explain hard teachings, the issues of godhood and new worlds are discussed. “Becoming Like God” was first published on 2/25/2014, with the doctrines of preexistence and exaltation serving as the focal points. We have reprinted this entire article, with our commentary scattered throughout. Can the information in this article be supported by the Bible? Is what is written here corroborated by other LDS leaders and manuals?
