Heavenly Mother definition

Heavenly Mother.  The wife of “Heavenly Father.” Early Mormon leaders openly taught that Heavenly Father was a practicing polygamist, making Heavenly Mother merely one wife among many (The Seer, p. 172). Mormon Apostle Bruce McConkie claimed the teaching of a Heavenly Mother is an “unspoken Truth” that is not mentioned in the standard works (Mormon Doctrine, 516). Women are created in the image of Heavenly Mother, according to twelfth President Spencer Kimball: “Men and women in the image of heavenly parents. God made man in his own image and certainly he made woman in the image of his wife partner. You [women] are daughters of God. You are precious. You are made in the image of our heavenly Mother” (The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, 25). Fifteenth President Gordon Hinckley said, “Logic and reason would certainly suggest that if we have a Father in Heaven, we have a Mother in Heaven. That doctrine rests well with me. However, in light of the instruction we have received from the Lord Himself, I regard it as inappropriate for anyone in the Church to pray to our Mother in Heaven” (“Daughters of God,” Ensign (Conference Edition), November 1991, 100. See also The Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley, p. 257).
