Acts 22:16 says, “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” Is Ananias stressing the act of water baptism in order to wash away a person’s sins? Or is he emphasizing calling on the name of the Lord? In light of the many passages that stress calling on the name of the Lord (see Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21; Rom. 10:13), we must choose the latter interpretation.
