God the Father

God the Father. Also known as Heavenly Father or Elohim. He was once a righteous human in another realm who died and then became God of this world. He has a tangible body of flesh and bones (D&C 130:22). According to Joseph Smith, “I will go back to the beginning before the world was, to show what kind of being God is. What sort of a being was God in the beginning? Open your ears and hear, all ye ends of the earth, for I am going to prove it to you by the Bible, and to tell you the designs of God in relation to the human race, and why He interferes with the affairs of man.

Elohim

Elohim. God the Father. The literal father of Jesus Christ. According to Apostle James Talmage, “Elohim is literally the Father of the spirit of Jesus Christ and also of the body in which Jesus Christ performed His mission in the flesh …” (The Articles of Faith, pp. 466-467). Elohim was once a mortal man who progressed to the level of God and is a “Being who has attained His exalted state” (Ibid., p. 430).
