Answers to the Mormon IQ Quiz

  1. The Word of Wisdom, which Joseph Smith claimed he received February 27, 1833. The cited section comes from D&C 89:2. Today the Word of Wisdom is a “command” to qualify for a temple recommend, understood to include not drinking alcohol or beverages like hot coffee or tea as well as abstaining from drugs and tobacco.
  2. Zedekiah. This is found in 1 Nephi 1:4. The third person? Lehi, Nephi’s father.
  3. Smith was the father-in-law to McConkie, who married Smith’s youngest daughter, Amelia.
  4. The St. George, UT temple. Number 2 was Logan, UT (1884), number 3 was Manti, UT (1888), and number 4 was Salt Lake City, UT (1893), which is the answer most people will give to this question.
  5. Adam was God. He said, “When our father Adam came into the garden of Even, he came into it with a celestial body, and brought Eve, one of his wives, with him. He helped to make and organize this world. He is MICHAEL, the Arch-angel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS! about whom holy men have written and spoken—He is our Father and our God, and the only God with whom we have to do.”
  6. James 1:5
  7. 15. According to Mormonism, the president always remains an apostle, as do the 2 members of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
  8. Weathervane.
  9. Joseph F. Smith, the sixth president of the church, in D&C 138.
  10. John Johnson (only need last name to get this correct).
  11. Marion.

How did you do? We made up the IQ of 132 for answering 9 of 11–but we think it’s close. Let’s just say, if you answered 9 or more correctly and didn’t cheat (as much as you were tempted), you are an expert in our book!
